June 30, 2021 5 Engaging Activities to Teach The Giver After jumping into the world of middle school ELA, I have to say that The Giver is my new Gatsby. In other words, it's my new favorite whole-class novel. It's even better than Gatsby (sorry, old sport), and it's such a gem of a book that it just might keep me teaching middle school forever!

1) Distribute the assignment. 2) Teach the novel as you normally would, paying close attention to some of the issues that will arise when students create their own Community. 3) Let students figure out responsibilities.
